ZIP UP: retractable folding stair for occasional access

A smart stair for lofts and storage spaces

ZIP UP is an ingenious ladder-stair hybrid fixed to the wall to reach higher levels whenever needed. It provides a safer and more comfortable climb than a loose ladder, making it ideal for lofts, storage platforms or compact mezzanines. When not in use, the upper section stays in place while the lower section is tucked away, so the room can be used freely for everyday activities.

Space-saving solution for narrow interiors

Developed for tight spaces, ZIP UP works perfectly in narrow corridors, utility rooms or any project where a space-saving stair is required. The lower part slides under the fixed upper part, freeing almost the entire floor area. You keep a clean, unobstructed space most of the time, yet still benefit from a reliable access whenever you need to reach items stored at height.

Why choose the ZIP UP staircase?

Real space saving in very small rooms

ZIP UP is designed for situations where a conventional staircase would simply not fit. Installed as a straight wall-mounted stair, it only needs a limited footprint and no bulky staircase well. Once folded, it occupies little more depth than a stored ladder, which makes it particularly suitable for compact flats, attics or workshop corners with very little clearance.

Robust steel frame with varnished wooden treads

The stair uses straight stringers cut from 10 mm steel plate, providing excellent stiffness and stability. Varnished laminated-wood treads project slightly beyond the structure to give a clear foothold and a warmer look than bare metal. This combination of steel and timber suits both contemporary interiors and more industrial settings.

Smooth retractable mechanism on wheels and rollers

The moving section is fitted with rubber wheels and rollers that slide inside the upper part. This guided movement allows the stair to be opened and closed smoothly, without jerks or heavy lifting. The user simply pulls the lower section into position and pushes it back when finished, while the system keeps the stair securely aligned.

Comfortable step geometry for occasional use

Although ZIP UP is a compact stair, its step geometry has been carefully designed. Riser heights between 200 and 225 mm, a going of 80 to 100 mm and a fixed tread depth of 100 mm create a consistent, predictable climbing rhythm. The protruding wooden treads improve grip underfoot, and optional handrails in steel or stainless steel can be added for extra safety when going up or down.
