Our story

+ 60 years of Belgian creativity and passion
1958 — The beginnings
Mr Willemsens presents his first custom staircases at the Batibouw trade fair in 1960. His passion for staircase design and quality workmanship lays the foundations of the SPIRA identity.
1962–1968 — The workshops and an iconic name
After workshops in Molenbeek and Forest, the company continues to grow under the name Wilmont. In 1968, architect Willy Van Der Meeren designs the SPIRA model, an emblematic staircase that gives the brand its definitive name.
1978–1985 — Innovation and landmark models
Spira unveils Selfwill II, a cast aluminium staircase recognised by the Brussels Design Center. Glimop and Spirwill follow, two creations that become classics of functional staircase design.
1990–2010 — Growth and digitalisation
Spira moves to Vilvoorde to support its growth in custom staircase production. In the 1990s, the first digitised staircase, Up and Down, marks the brand’s entry into 3D modelling. Two additional sales points then open: SPIRA Namur and LNC-SPIRA Oudenaarde.
2020–2025 — Sustainability and a new generation
Spira strengthens its environmental commitment: responsible timber, recycled metals and repurposed materials become standard in the production of interior and exterior staircases. In 2025, three passionate employees take over the company and continue its heritage of precision, innovation and Belgian design.
Today, SPIRA continues to turn the staircase into a unique feature, where engineering and aesthetics meet to create durable, timeless designs for every project.
